Question new distributor no spark?

I have a new proform hei distributor for my 302. I replaced the old points style system with this. I ran a new non-resistance wire from the fuse panel. I ended up moving the crank while trying to stab the new distributor. So i set it to top dead center.(i think) I also put new plug wires on.It will not start. I have no electric current coming out of the #1 plug shorting it across the block. I do have 12.16 volts going to the distributor. If i am at TDC on the exhaust stroke will it not alllow any spark to come thru? Thanks for any help!

No. The plug should fire at the "proper" time regardless of whether you installed the distributor 180 out or not.

Verify the distributor is rotating.

If it is, your problem is either the electronic pickup mechanism or the ignition module.

Since I've never seen your exact setup, you'll have to take it from there.

I have verified that the rotor is turning. It does not take much for the distributor to be grounded to the block right? One thing i need to check is if the 12.16 volts is still current when i put the ignition in the start mode. I have only checked it in run mode. I will call proform tommorrow and ask tech help to.

Just making sure you are not grounding the wire to the block. You should hold it a short distance away without touching. If you still have one of your old sparkplugs, you can plug it into the wire and then ground the body of the sparkplug to the engine block. You should then see the spark jump the gap in the sprakplug.

If you get spark, and it won't start, you probably have the dist in wrong. We can help you with that if that's the case.

I have tried it with the plug wire being suspended away from the block and the plug grounded to the timing cover.

Take the module out and take it to autozone. They have a machine that can test the module and see if it's bad. It should be under warrenty, but no one really knows what's wrong yet, so I can't see them getting upset if you take the module out and get it tested. Just try to save all the special grease on the back of it to re-use if it's good.

Well i checked the fuse panel slot where i have the new dizzy supply wire. It has 12 volts in run but not in start. So i found a suitable location to supply it! The motor almost started. I swapped it 180 out and it ran(barely) bumped up the timing and it idled. It still starts tries to back fire on acceleration. Not enough advance right? One problem i need to fix is to figure out why my lifters are knocking? when i swapped my new Dizzy on is it capable that the oil pump shaft is to far up inside the dizzy to engage the oil pump? I used gasket sealer to help hold on to the shaft when installing it but enough so it would slip a little bit. My oil pressure gauge says nothing but that could mean alot of things! I will post the oil pump questions in the proper spot too!
