69 f100 w/360, new carb, elec fuel pump, rubber fuel lines, new cap, rotor, plugs wires. drove truck ran good until warmed up died out in the middle of the country, it was cold out and i had my kids with me. sounded like it ran out of gas, it died and fired again for about a second, died again, and then fired for about 1/4 of a second, towed it to the shop, fuel pump is pumping, carb is squirting, coil is firing, points are sparking, but no spark from distributor to plugs, if my points are sparking and my cap, rotor, plugs and wires are new, (rotor does spin) then why dont I have any spark coming from distributor?
also your plug wires or coil wire may not be pluged all the way in...this happened to my dads pantara, it looked and felt right but the coil wire was not all the way in...pull the wire from the coil to the distributer off of the distributer and put it next (about an 1/8 inch) to a good grounding spot and see if it sparks, if it does and you dont have any spark out of the plug wires (useing same method) then it is the cap or the points...i would say take the points out and put in somehting like a pertronix to replace them...well worth it. just one more idea to help.
the coil is sparking, the first cap was only a month old, today I replaced the cap and rotor with more new ones, there is a spark when points open up, but no spark out of the distrib.?
Make sure the rotor TAB is tall enough to reach the cap center point. Does the old one had a small black point on it from rubbing on center of cap? Does the new one have one now?
I've had the cap "point" fall apart and thus not allow coil to transfer to rotor.
