Parts interchangeability 91 to 95

I have the chance to buy a 91 XLT with body damage for parts to use on my 95 XL. First I'd like to go for the nicer seats and door panels, along with the power windows and locks. That should fit, right? Then I'd also take it's nicer wheels and tires.

I am wondering if the 91 will have the same E4OD as the 95? The 91 trans was rebuilt and should make a donor whenever the one in my 95 goes. What other parts do interchange and do NOT interchange? Will the 302 be the same on both years?

The pan is to park the 91 in the yard and keep it for parts. Maybe part out smaller items to make up for the sale price.

The E4OD, assuming its been rebuilt recently, should have all of the updates that Ford did over the early production run of that transmission so you are doing well there. Somewhere between 93 and 95 the connector on the MLPS changed so you will need to keep the one from the 95.

The seats should be fine but I personally prefer the newer (92-96) version. If the 95 has the air-bladder lumbar support, I'd keep 'em and go for a re-upholstering if necessary.

The door panels are gonna be a bit tricky since in 92 Ford moved the door lock and power window buttons up where you are used to them being in your 95. If your 95 doesn't have power windows and locks however, to the best of my knowledge, the window motors and lock solenoids should swap right in. Adding all of the wiring coud be "fun". Prior to 92 the buttons were way down low on the door...I dare say, slightly lower in the door panel than the interior release handle so the look of the interior will change.

Wheels are the same, the 302 is the same but if your 95 is mass-air you will have to re-use the fuel, ignition system, and wiring components from the 95 should you ever need to do a transplant.

Most everything else is the same with the obvious exception to the body parts that are still the 87-91 styling. From the firewall back though, just about everything is the same. Some minor differences in interior equipment like the lack of the rear cupholders and armrests with storage under them.

The 91's fiberglass top will NOT have the shoulder harness mounts for the rear seat passengers nor will it have the high-mount stoplamp. The nice thing is you can swap the top-mounting hardware from the tamper-proof Torx to standard hex head since prior to 92 the tops were held onto the Bronco with standard hardware instead.

Thanks so much for the detailed info. Body parts are of no concern as this truck has some pretty good body damage.

The 95 I have now is bare bones because it is an XL. The wife would like the truck a lot better if it had a center console and cloth (instead of vinyl) seats. I'll have to think about the power options. I personally like the fact that it is all manual - less stuff to break. It certainly is nice to have a manual transfer case and manual hubs from the factory that late in the game.

I figured that I will have to keep my injection and emissions equipment. That's advisable anyway, with the strict smog rules here. If it doesn't look exactly like 95, I'd get in trouble.

Anyway, sounds like the truck will be a good donor. I will try to pick it up for the price of a set of seats, center console and the wheels. The rest will be gravy.

Oh, something that just hit me...if the tailgate and rear glass in the 91 are in good condition, the parts are worth their wieght in gold. Just take a look at the price of the OEM version of the parts at Jeff's Bronco Graveyard sometime and you will see what I mean. If the rear window has the defrost grid on it a new version tips the scales at about $600.00

LOL. Thanks for the input, greystreak92. I have not seen the truck yet. I will keep you posted. It is very good info to have, since it will give me confidence to go buy it if the tailgate and glass are good. I know that the tailgate rusts out in no time in the not-so-nice climates.

Thanks again all for your input!

Went and looked at it. Not much useable, including the tail gate. The rear window is there but scratched. Has beat seats. The drive train is real nice, despite 160k miles, but I don't need a drivetrain. It would be nice to have a spare E4OD, but not for what the guy is asking. A core A4OD can be had for less, no doubt.

It has American Racing rims, probably 15x8 with 12.5x33 tires. That won't swap on my stock suspension 95 either. Do you think my tires (9.5x31) would fit the 15x8 wheels?

I think I am going to pass, unless you tell me otherwise. Since the seats are wasted, there is no immediate thing that I could swap over.

What do you think?

you shouldn't have much trouble fitting the 33s on your stock truck. I know many people who run 33s with no lift. Might need a little trimming of the front bumber though. The 31s will fit no problem on an 8 inch wide wheels.

I am passing on this one. It is a good buy if you need the parts that are good on the truck. You can send me a PM and I give you the contact info for the seller. The truck is in Livermore, CA.
