I don't think ordinary recordings would be able to discern the difference. When I listen to a 5" vs. a 4", there seems to be a much deeper undertone beneath the 5", and I doubt that would record well.
Did you ever hear a recording of a jet engine? It still sounds like a jet, but nearly all the deep rumble is missing.
Sound recording has its limitations - AND even if it was recorded well, most home sound systems don't reproduce very low-frequency sound very well.
Does anyone have any soundclips of a 4" straight vs. a 5" straight?
A guy down the street from me finally came to me to ask,"what the 'heck' did you put on that thing?" He has a 4" with a ff muffler and mine is much louder (accelerating) than his and much "beefier" at idle. There's a big difference in basic sound. The 5" is like a school bus on steroids.
Thats awsome man... "like a school bus on steroids." Now do you have the 3" downpipe? I thinking about going with the 4" but ill this hype on the 5" sounds like the way to go for sound. Do regular exhaust shops do that size of pipe?
No 5 inch downpipe. The DP for the 5-inch system is 4 inches. It stays 4 inches until the pipe reaches the trans cross-member, then it opens out to 5 inches. THere just isn't room before the cross-member for a 5-inch pipe!
I paid about $430 delivered to my door - but no fancy chrome tip.
The only pix I have don't do it justice - but Kwik posted a picture of his foot inside his exhaust pipe. You get a good idea of pipe size with that pic.

Hey Geoff........Dave here....What type of clamps does Mark send you with his 5 inch system? I have heard to stay away from the standard "U"bolts that they pinch the pipe and make it difficult to remove if you ever have to. I am also thinking about getting the muffler AND the muffler delete pipe, just in case the ole lady says it's too loud..........Would rather hear the turbo whine than her....Thanks for the words of wisdom.....Dave

They are the "U" bolts. They didn't "squish" my pipes and they seem to be alright. Some may disagree but I'm happy.
Hey guys......I just got a quote and response from Mark about his clamps...he said they are "the standard exhaust clamps with a pin in them so they can not fall off. " I'm not sure what the standard clamps with a pin are? Just trying to understand what he meant about the pin part? Thanks again.....

The hangers have washers and spring (cotter) pins. That way they can't slip out of the grommets on the truck. The clamps are just normal clamps. I check mine once a week to make sure the bolts are tight. 3 weeks and not a single complaint. Mark sells a nice system.
