Clutch Differences Between 84 and 85

I am putting a new clutch in my 84 BII, I was ready to put it all together tonight and I noticed that the Clutch Release Bearing is way different than the old one. It doesnt even fit. I then looked at the Luk box closer and it said Ford 85-87. I am guessing that the 84 is different. I have the toyo kogyo 5 speed. any one else expierence this or know anything about it? I didnt use any thing so im sure that I can get it replaced.

I believe the 84 has a manual linkage and the 85-on are hydraulic. I am not sure what difference it would make but that may be your problem.

Not sure about the early Rangers/Bronco II's having manual linkage clutches, but I believe the main difference was whether or not it had an internal or external slave cylinder (external being outside the bellhousing, internal riding on the input shaft, etc.). I don't think either were -never- hydraulic (even the old Ford Couriers had hydraulic clutches towards the end of production, if I remember right).

It is an external slave cylinder, Two bolts hold it to the bellhousing.

Then the throwout bearing is different than a newer one. Go back to the parts store and tell them to give you the right part....

There aren't any differences in the pressure plate or friction disc that I'm aware of (?), in fact, I believe it's the same exact parts that the old Pintos, Capris, and Pinto-fied Mustangs (as well as the 4-banger and V-6 80's and up Mustangs, if I remember right) used

yes the clutch palte and such are the same from the 2.3 to 2.9 no matter the year, jsut differant throwout bearings.

Tell the parts store you got the wrong kit, or tell them to atleast exchange the throwout bearing.
