4" downpipe question

Has anyone run a 4" dp, and if so, how much gain in performance? I've been thinking of going with a body lift to accomodate a 4" pipe since I need to change cab mount bushings anyway. Just wondering if it's worth the trouble . Thanks in advance for the feedback, aloha.

from what i hear the superduty guys saying its not really worth it. many say the have "lost" low end but in reality powerband has moved up a few hundred rpm. unless your going to be putting down huge power i wouldn't do it. but i also have no first hand experience.

btw if you do what are you gonna do with your old DP????

there wasn't too much of a gain in performance. egts did drop some but for me that was going from the stock dp right to the 4". if you are going to put a 4" dp on, you need to modify the turbo outlet housing. the 99+ dp will not clamp onto the 94-97 outlet flange. i did notice a drop in the low end power like tjbeggs mentioned, and the powerband has moved up a little. but the low end drop is nothing a chip can't handle. true, that it's not really necessary unless you go with some big power, but you can still do it if you want to. also, with the auto, you will need to change the tranny dipstick and tube to the 99+ e4od style. that is necessary to get around the dp. feel free to ask me more questions about it.

Its not necesary. 3" is plenty for a stock injectored truck, heck im running a 3" still and im 500hp range.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. By the looks of things I think it's gonna stay the way it is. Sorry TJ, gotta keep the dp but thanks again, aloha.
