Help or direction where I can find information on how to determine if a used chip or tuner will work for my truck. Have a 95 PSD, 4WD, Manual 4.10. Changed out downpipe and considering "cleaning" the cat pipe. Have been searching ebay to find a chip or tuner real cheap.
Anyway, I can't find much information other than if buying new. Is it worth even adding a chip or tuner? Kind of seems more beneficial for automatic trans.
i have a 97 psd, 4wd, 410 manual, also. i have a superchip and i see a considerable difference. on the middle setting im getting somewhere around 50 hp and 2-3mpg better so long as i keep my foot out of it. as far as used chips, i know superchips are VIN locked to the first vehicle theyre used on, so they cant be transfered. not sure about anyone elses. good luck.

i am pretty sure as long as they unlock it before they sell it you can re use one.
personally i would go for a 4 or 6 pos chip. i got mine from black cloud diesel for a smoking price. just because you see a posted price out there on all these aftermarket websites doesnt mean you gotta pay that. beleive me all these diesel places want your business. they will haggle. i do it all the time with good results.
seriously how much is a little circuit card with 4' of wires and a switch cost to make/buy maybe $2.00??????? and then they burn some programs on it. just my .02
i was wondering how the programmers are broken up by year. i mean i know that the 96 model powerstroke was different from the 94.5-95, and the 97 was improved over 96, but are the computers all the same? can i take a programmer from any of these trucks and use it on mine (95 powerstroke 4x4 manual)? also i have access to a programmer from a 99, will this work on mine as well?
No the computers are not all the same, I have a hypertech that came with my '97. so far I have been able to use this programer on TDE0, TDE1, NAW4, and NAW6 PCM codes, it will not work on a TEE5, as the PCM will not accept the under dash port.
The '99 programer will NOT work.
GSDogs, look into a Chip, it is pretty hard to find a programer that will work with the '95 PCM.
DP-Tuner has chips AND pcm's at VERY resonable cost. PM me if you want his number or any other questions.
