Where to get camper certification????

My truck has the camper package. It is supposed to come with a camper certification and didn't. I called the dealer and they stated it's put in the glove box when the truck is built, before leaving the factory. They couldn't help, except to offer to make a copy of another, from another truck. They said it has a VIN on it though, so it wouldn't match my truck.

I called Ford customer service and after about 15 minutes was told they didn't know what I was talking about and would have to talk to the RV customer service. I was transferred an the person, again, didn't know what I was talking about. He looked up the Camper Package option and read it to me, which I had already done for him. He read it comes with a camper certification, but had no idea what that is or how to get it.

Anyone know where I can get a copy of the certification that *should* have been in MY truck? Anyone know who I need to speak with? Thanks.

I haul a camper, so I ordered my truck with the camper package. It arrived at the dealer with a camper certificate in the glovebox. That's the standard location.

If you can get one off a similar truck, it'll tell you everything you need to know. Basically it shows you what your weight limits are depending on where the center of gravity (CG) of the camper is located.
The certificate is not something that's needed for any regulatory purpose, so I wouldn't sweat it too much. Just make sure the camper CG is ontop of the rear axle or forward of it. You should weigh the truck unloaded and then again with the camper loaded (make sure to get seperate front and rear axle weights) to find out how far over Ford's weight limits you are. I say that because virtually all camper owners exceed the truck's limits, whether they know it or not ( or want to admit it). Try hitting some truck scales when they are closed because they usually leave them on - you can peek in the window.

Check our the slide-in forum over at www.irv2.com for lots of great camper info.

do you want it just to have, or do you need the cert?

To have it. If I sell the truck I want everything the camper "package" was to come with. The package comes with a camper cert. I'd *like* it because I want a camper. I guess I *need* it if pulled over carrying a camper.

I've owned two Jeeps. I could ask online or call and get a complete build print out for my Jeep and just about anything I needed. I was really disappointed to find that Ford's customer service rep had no idea what the camper package was, and couldn't see it came with the camper cert. It was an RV customer service person that found the package and recited that it comes with a cert.

Ford has camper literature, that includes the adds/subtracts of weight of each option to give the *exact* camper amount. If the cert is based on my truck, with my specific options, it would MUCH easier to look at it than to add/subtract for every option listed in Fords camper literature.

Hello, Ace.
I'm facing the same issue with my 2005 F-250. No certificate came with the truck, and the dealer is unfamiliar with it. Have you had any luck since your last posting? I was just about to contact Ford when I decided to see if anyone else solved this mystery.
Thanks and good luck.

Check with a local RV place. Maybe they can do an inspection or something and certify it. Or at least, know where to go to get one.

I can't believe all these people running around with slip-in campers still have the original paperwork in the glovebox Especially those with older trucks.

An RV dealer will only be able to look at the truck and say "yes I can put a camper on that". It really is only a piece of paper that has the vin # on it and tells how to figure the center point of gravity, it is not necessary. If it is stated on the original window sticker that is all you need to have proof of the camper package when you go to sell the truck. It should also come up by the vin #.

Good luck getting the correct paper from FORD.

I agree with toyman. An rv dealer is your best bet. My 350 was built with a camper pkg and my paper was in glove box vin specific.

No, I haven't spoken with anyone at Ford again.

I doubt there are camper certs in all the old Fords driving around too. The owners of those trucks are the ones that keep posting "how can I tell if my truck came with the camper package".

I have an 05 F250, CC, 8',, x4, and I recently had an old 1968, 10.5' camper on it. That camper was stinkin heavy. I installed Timbren SES and it handled fine, despite the low gas mileage. The camper slept 6 and was fully loaded. I don't know if I have the camper package, since I never asked. Your GVWR sticker, will tell you what you need to know, regardless if you have a certification or not. I have a max GVWR of 9800lbs. When I went through the Ohio tolls it thought I was a semi.

Can you get a copy of the window sticker. It should be on there.

I've never seen the camper cert, but my understanding is it's specific to the vehicle. I went to a site to look up the info and you have to add/deduct for almost every option on the vehicle. It'd be a lot easier if they gave you a piece of paper with the capacity already on it.

Ace, I'd suggest getting in touch with your dealer again. They told you where it should be (in the glove box) , but for whatever reason, yours was not there. Maybe it was never put there (doubtful) , maybe someone else looking at the truck before you bought it decided to take it (more likely?). The dealer, in my opinion, should be calling Ford ,to get a replacement certificate specific to your truck. That's part of what you're paying for in that package. As someone else stated the camper package option is listed on the window sticker, but that doesn't tell you anything, other than the fact that it's on the truck.
