Just yesterday i hoped in the truck adn attemped to start her up. everything clicked on but it was a no go. no clicking no turning over. nothing at all. so i had to jump across the starter to get her running to get her in the shop. any ideas on what might be wrong? any damage done to the starter by doing this?

i know i took a screw driver and touched across the big red lead and i touched something else under there. i couldnt see what i was really doing because it was so cramed under there. but she threw some sparks and turned over and started
Not enough info. If you started it by jumping the starter solenoid, then that is likely your problem because the battery had enough juice to start it, but not always. Never heard of somebody jumping the starter as you would need someone in the truck turning the key on a working solenoid and then another person jumping the terminals on the starter which shouldn't work anyway because the juice would be there anyway. Now it could possibly be the ignition switch or wiring problem if you did it from the solenoid and the solenoid checks out.
Still have the original batteries? Posts and terminals clean and corrosion free?
the batteries have been in for a little over a year and everything checked out there. i got new batts..well a year ago.
it could be a solinoid but then again why would i be asking. duh.. i had my buddy in the truck working the switch but he says all he did was turn it to the on position and not turning as you would when in normal.
Check your battery cable that runs from the battery to the starter. My Expedition had your same problems and it was the cable rubbed against a frame bolt and wore through the insulation on the cable.
Sounds like he jumped from the main lug on the starter to the signal in from the start solenoid. If he did that, the key would only have to be in the on position. Sounds like the solenoid on the fender well is going out, or as previously stated, wire rubbing creating a short.

if you jumped it at the starter you don't have a battery, fender solenoid, or cable issue. either the ignition wire from the switch is bad (connection, broken wire, bad ignition switch) or the soleniod at the starter is bad. the starter motor is good since it started the truck the battery and wires also aren't the problem otherwise the truck would not have started.
