Well I wasnt sure if there was a break in the circuit maybe a like a gash in the cable itself exposing it to metal

If that cable connected to the grounded frame, the cable's inline fuse would have blown. If there's no fuse in the line and it was touching grounded metal, your truck would have burned down, not just drained the battery.

Test it with a test light if you really want to; clip the end to the power cable and poke the light to your ground.
