I just got a great deal on a Polk MOMO 10" sub. I want to put it in my 2001 F350 Crew Cab. But surprisingly, there is hardly any space behind the rear seat. The sub needs 5.5" inside the box which would make the outside dimensions 7" (using 3/4" MDF). At 11" off the floor (the height of the box) I only have 5" from seatback to rear wall. Any suggestions?
Also, I was thinking maybe I could raise the seat and put a box under there...
You can cut/remove the fabric that is on the rear wall and that should work if you need 7" on the bottom. You can also flip the seat bracket. It is in between the bracket that mounts to the floor and the seat. I have been told that if you move them to opposite sides and reverse them it will move the seat forward 2". Or, you can do like I did and redrill the holes in the bracket the mounts to the floor to move the seat forward.
I had 2-12" Polk Momo subs back there with an angled box that measured 10" at the bottom and something like 7" at the top with the seat moved 1.5" forward.
If you take the carpet stuff off the back wall, or just cut out where your box will be, you shoudl get enough room. You could also move the seat up as described above. You can get a kit to raise the rear seat if that is the way you would like to go.
At 5.5" mounting depth you should be able to do it without moving the seat.....I have a box constructed without moving the seat that had a mounting depth of about 5 7/8" if i remember right....I did have to place 4 washers on each side under the back floor mounts to raise the rear a tad to keep the seat from binding when I went to fold it forward.....I just ended up not using the box because that mounting depth wasn't going to be enough for me
My system is coming along... slowly but surely...'
Does anyone know what those vent holes are for in the back wall of my 2001 Crew Cab 350? I want to cover them with dynamat, but want to make sure that they really aren't necessary to keep open.
i just had 4 10" planet audios installed behind my seat of a 03 crew cab. We had to shift the brackets forward about 1" to make fit, but it worked out just right. As for the vents. They are air vents to keep your truck from being too air tight so your doors will close. Atleast thats what my stereo installer told me.
Toddnga, did you cover your vents in your crew cab? If so, have you noticed any pressue/condensation problems in your truck? I covered mine in my 2000 CC when I put my 4 10"s behind the rear seat. I have experienced no problems at all. Just wondering about others vehicles.

Yes I did cover the vents and no i have not experienced any problems from it. Its not like the box is air tight against the vent but it is against it. No problems so far. How well do you like your xm radio. I was thinking about getting it since my alpine head unit is xm ready. I think all i have to buy is an antenna and some sort of xm modulator or something.

I like my XM. You will need an antenna and an XM reciever. There are many antennas to choose from. I went with an on-glass antenna because I didn't like the look of any of the roof mount antennas on a super-duty. For 10 bucks a month you can't beat the programming.
