A caddy is nothing more than JOB SECURITY! If you can own one, you had better be able to afford to fix it!! A FORD should remain a Ford, and if you really want to degrade yourself, A gm should remain gm!

Well if you go there, then you're stacking a sports car against a luxury sedan. That's not exactly equal footing either. That luxury sedan would still fare nicely against a $40k mustang. Take a $40k FORD sedan and put it against a Cadillac. You wouldn't, just to save your own embarassment. Of course Ford is capable of building a comparable motor to the Northstar, but that's not the point. Cadillac is American luxury at it's finest. If the consumer wants something nice, they go Cadillac, or they go foreign. Let's not compare Apples to Oranges. I was merely pointing out that an earlier model Mustang GT (the 5.0) couldn't cope with a 289hp rental Cadillac.

You also compared the perf version of the Mustang. Take a performance Cadillac. The CTS-V. This has an LS-1 in it, if I'm not mistaken, pumping out 400hp, mated to a 6spd transmission, would cost $15k more than the Mustang, would be neck and neck, if not better in performance than the Mustang, but would provide the amenities that make people want a Cadillac. You can go fast, or you can go fast in style. That extra $15k is worth it to alot of people. A go-fast Mustang is common. Every other punk on the street has one of those. A comparable Cadillac is a rare sight, but I would much rather own the Cadillac. Why else would cadillac open up 3 production vehicles in the V-performance line?

I agree, putting a GM motor in a Ford would have only one kind of value. That would be sentimental value. That value would only exist for you. You'd better plan on owning that thing for the rest of eternity if you go that route. :/

You really can't compare a Ford and a Caddy. Both are (usually) very good, but they fill different purposes. I have a Ranger, my friend has a 2000 Deville DHS. If we need to go a long ways in a hurry, the Caddy wins hands-down. Last week, he needed to move an engine-hoist. Guess which one we took...

At no price point or performance level are there really apples to apples comparison between the two brands.

As to value, I'm not too sure that a Ranger with a Ford V8 dropped in it is going to have great resale value, either. A lot of people (me included) tend to shy away from buying other people's project vehicles.

This is true with any vehicle that has had a lot of "mods" done to it. They usually have had the heck run out of them!!!!

As far as GM products, they are all garbage!!!

Just a few of the engineering blunders GM has had in the past
1) Converting a gas engine to a diesel
2) The Cadillac V-8-6-4
3) The "ALL ALUMINUM" 4 cylinder Vega
4) on and on..........

Just incase you missed this in my previous post. The Northstar is right up there with the best of the "knockers":

Suck all the caddy butt you want to partner, they suck, just like the rest of gm sucks, You want one, go buy it. I F i HAD A MILLION DOLLARS, caddy wouldn't be on my list of cars to buy. The caddy is 50,000$ worth of ugley. Isn't this a ranger topic?

Let's not open the Ford vs Chevy topic... it will never end and be slightly biased in this forum.

As for the 2006 CTS-V, it's got the LS2 at 400hp and a six-speed with a base MSRP at $51,395. The 2006 Mustang GT has an MSRP of $25,860. Almost half the price of the Caddy. I know that I could get more than 400hp out of the 'Stang and put in a six speed with the additional $25,535 in cash I'd have in my pocket. Plus, the 'Stang would be better than a four door sedan anyday. Ask me, my '82 LTD Crown Vic is faster than a '82 Mustang GT and has so much cooler things, and cost twice as much new. Yet, the Mustang would sell for three or four times as much as my car today, and no one looks at an '82 brown box. In 25 years, the Mustang will still be cool and the Caddy will just be a thing of the past, worthless except for the few collectors of oddballs.

Another example: The 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham. TOP of the Line in 1958 as far as performance, luxury, everything. Cost over $13K in 1958. Now, there worth about $50K. Normal '57 T-birds routinely sell for more, F- and E-Birds even more.

Haha, how old are we?

This was a Ranger topic until you started bashing. All the ranting proves nothing. It's not that I don't love my Ford, I just think that people need to open their horizons. By no means, would I ever, ever own a GM compact/mid-size/whatever they are now. I am fond of their full size trucks and SUVs. I'm also fond of Ford trucks. Ford cars are hideous with the exception of the
Stang. Chevy cars are looking up. The Cobalt SS is a very, very nice looking compact. The Camaro concept is eye-catching.

Saying you would rather die in a Ford could be a very gruesome death if you go in the Focus or the Fusion, haha.

I own a focus, one of the best cars I've had. Handles like a dream, I'll take on any corvette in a short tight course! It is a ZX5. And I work at a ford dealership, I make my living working on vehicles.

I have a 2006 focus zx3, 5-speed, handles great, looks sharp, and with some help from cosworth, it will give stangs, and vettes a run for there money, and I'll still only have twenty couple in it, and get over 30mpg. That new duratec has an awesome flowing head, and you can get one in a ranger. Cosworth is getting 250 streetable hp from the duratec without forced induction. Alot of stuff comming out for the duratec, that will cross over to the ranger. As far performance sedans, don't forget about the ford jaguar, and ford austin martin, they will give any caddy a run for it, in luxurey, or speed, not to mention price....OUCH!!!

Is that really hurting you?

Surely you don't mean your Focus will give a Vette a run. I understand having pride in your ride, but be true to yourself. A focus going 0-60 in under 6 seconds would be sweet. Anywhere near the Sub 5-second corvette?

[QUOTE=Noble Lumpkin]The reason they get the most for the buck is because their race parts are so much cheaper than a real engines parts.

This is true and this is the reason. These parts are available everywhere.

If you ask me a caddy is something old people drive. Yeah, 32 valve northstar wo hooo. Try racing a mach 1 or a cobra with that and see what happens. I have a friend who's dad owns a newer caddy with the 32 V northstar in it. Yeah its fast, but not faster than the Mach1 and the Cobra. And the buttons are falling off of the radio, the blower motor for the back 2 seats doesnt blow on the low setting, and squeals on the higher settings. The trunk popper doent work right. At least in teh stang everything is still functional.

natebaker, I don't mean stock, there are focus pushing 500 to 800 hp, not that mine will ever see that. Some cosworth parts, stage 1, and 2, plus a turbo, or sc, your at 350 hp, and alot lighter. I didn't say beat v-8's, I said run with them. If I were only interested in beating vettes, I'd poney up for a ford gt 40, or a vipper, anything but a chevy. I know it sounds crazy, but there doing some awesome stuff for 4 cylinders these days, twin turbo 800 hp honda civics, and so on, it's on real!

Sorry, no twin turbos on a 4banger.

I know all ab 4cyl performance. My mom's TDI Jetta (yes, that's a 1.9L TC diesel) will reach speeds in excess of 135. I hit 130 yesterday. I just ran out of pavement. I know ab putting larger turbos on it. I know ab bigger injectors, limited slips, racing clutches, and tuner chips. I'd pit this Diesel up against many cars around here.

Obviously you didn't mean stock. I don't think you're on crack.

Lol, why are we still comparing apples to oranges? People who want luxury but Cadillac or they buy foreign. Lexus, Audi, the infamous BMW, Benz. You see a whole lot more of those than you will see with Lincoln, Jag, Volvo, and Aston Martin. Luxury just hasn't been mastered by Ford yet. I will say it again, Cadillac is American luxury.

I love fords, but I love alot of Cars. My most current love, would have to be the Audi Rs6. you guys should really check those out. The only make of vehicle that is currently imported to the states that I would never own, would be those off-brand Asian autos i.e. Kia (things that make you go :P). Those things just don't appeal to me.

$25k is all a GT Stang goes for? Lol, what am I doing in my Ranger? Geez, lol.
