I'd definetly be impressed if you did. A great bang for the buck. The Chevy small block V8 is king to the others, despite what others say about crossing Chevy and Ford. It's very doable and quite a concept.
You'll catch a lot of heat from the Ford guys for using a Chevy engine and from the Chevy guys for using a Ford truck. But it'll seriously move. I'd do it if I had the equipment, knowledge, and big enough wallet.
The Chevy small block V8 isn't king to anything!!!
If I remember, it's only been a week or so since you did a thread asking about putting the 350 from your dad's Chevy truck in your Ranger!!
So there's no reason they're talking about the Chevy small block being superior in the general automotive discussion forum? Hmm...must just be those guys.
I've seen a couple of rangers with small block chevys in them offerd on ebay over the last couple of years. But it looked like they went to the extent of not having any heater at all because of the way the firewall was finished off with no heater hoses or plenum box. Could only drive it on nice summer days - not year round.
An S-10 with a 350 would be cool, a ranger with a 351 would be cool, any mix of the two could cause an inbalance in the universe hee hee! Chevy has been making that small block forever, pretty much unchanged. Wasn't it in the 50's that the 283, and the 327 came out? It has along history, with alot of after market suport. The 5.0 mustang brought back interest in the ford small block in a big way, the aftermarket is flooded with ford small block parts, but still a bit more pricy than chevy.
For once I agree with Bob, if your hell bent on putting a chevy v-8 into something, try an S-10, I'm sure it would be easier, and not so offessive to the rest of us. But it's your truck, your money, whatever turns your crank. In the mustang 5.0 class, last I heard, they were into the 7 second quarter mile range, so if you think a ford small block won't run, THINK AGAIN!!
If it makes you feel any better I could get vavle covers made that say ford and a Ford 9 inch rear end!!
Right now I can get ahold of a stroked and bored 350 (a 400 crank to make it 383 then bored .060 over with this last build) maybe about 390+ cubes. So it's probably knocking on about 450HP!!! It's got trick flow heads, forged crank, pistons, rods, edelbrock victor air gap intake, and a holley 650 cfm 4-barrel carb. I've got have got a built Muncie 4-speed tranny to go behing it!
Doesn't make me feel better at all, chevy sucks, nomatter how you slice the pie, they still suck, and they will allways suck to me, thats why I buy ford, and belong to ford forums. Sound like a nice motor though, just seems like a shame to waste it on a ranger, that would be defiled. Alot of S-10 bodies around, or how about a vega? Light car, big motor, now that's a combination! rangers are light in the rear, It will give you traction problems, a car would be much better, YEAH!, THATS THE TICKET, A VEGA, OR OTHER SMALL GM ROAD RAG, A CAV, OR SUNFIRE, ARE YOU FEELING ME YET?
No, actually I can't smell what your stepping in! Yes it is light in the rear thats why you buy some bfg drag radials and upgrade the rear suspension with something like this!!!
YEAH ,spend all that money ,and you still have a good truck, with a junk engine, makes since to me, some people have more money than brains, or don't have either, and just like to BS a post to death!
Click on my name here (benaghetto) and click on view gallery and tell me what you think about my my ranger! I'm thinking about doing the engine thing and getting a fat sticker across the windshield that says "Built Ford tough with Chevy stuff" !!!!
