Audi TT crash video

He got crushed by an 18 wheeler and walked away with minor injuries. Video is from the bus that also ran over him.

Something to think about next time I'm surrounded by big rigs on the highway.

yea, i saw that video, it was a quick video so didn't get to see the aftermath. that guy is very lucky, if someone asked me, i would look at the wreck and say he almost certainly died or at least serverly injured.

i never did hover around big rigs like some people do, when i pass them, i hurrily do it. not that i don't trust any drivers, just that when something does happen, its usually big.

From the amount of traffic in the video I don't think he had much choice. The truck driver just suddenly swerved across 3 lanes to smash him into the wall. I saw a wreck a couple of weeks ago where a guy got killed and his car looked similar to this Audi.

Bald tires, 8 tons over, and paperwork errors DO NOT account for why that trucker swerved across 3 lanes. Those are minor problems, according to some truckers.
If one of the front tractor tires blew out that might cause an uncontrollable condition, but most trucks handle just as well with 96,000 lbs as they do with 80,000 lbs.

The best part of the video...was the audio! The microphone recorded some chilling screams from inside the bus just before the scheiss hit the jersey barrier.

He wants to get a bigger car, but I think in this case, the smaller car saved his life. He got pushed under the trailer, and he was low enough to the ground to not get his head taken off. A bigger car might have put his head into the side of the trailer while the rest of the car went underneath.

Something else I saw in the video was that the HOV lane was moving VERY quickly compared to the rest of the traffic, which contributed to the severity of that crash. Remember, it's not speed that kills, it's a sudden CHANGE in speed that kills. Anytime you have a large differential in speed across the lanes, you have more potential for a more serious wreck.

I saw the video and assumed the Audi was toast. Didn't see the under the trailer part, which no doubt saved him. Hard to see in the one view given how the car crumpled up.

I have an A4 and I stay the heck away from everyone. Side hairbags or not, I don't want to test the crumple zones....(again)

One more impression of that video. Comcast had a still picture of the Audi TT wreck (aftermath) on the comcast news page. The only reason I clicked on to view the video is because I thought the Audi was a wrecked motorcycle.

The sudden change from 70mph to completely stopped is really dangerous.

If a big rig shoves you into a wall your speed at the time of impact isn't going to make much difference.
