351 engine locked-up
Here is my sad story. I purchased a used grimmer-schmidt air compressor. It is an older model. It has a 351 v-8. Four cylinders run the engine, four cylinders pump air. The unit has been sitting up (outside). I changed the oil using 10w-30. The machine ran for about 1 hr pumping air, air hammer breaking concrete. White smoke started bellowing out of machine. Machine cranked after cool down. I took machine back to our storage yard. Had time yesterday to tinker with it. Would not crank. Battery seemed low. Connected two sets of cables to battery to no avail. Replaced starter. Machine wanted to crank when all of a sudden it "locked up". I can manually turn fan and alternator by hand but cannot turn crankshaft pulley. Engine seems to be about a 1975 model.
I am new to this site but read it frequently for questions and answers concerning my 2002 F-250 and 1999 Contour. I am not experienced enough, nor do I have the tools to rebuild the engine. Should I take the compressor to the j-yard and cut my losses?
When you get it fixed, make sure to check the radiator fins for plugging. Most of the portable a/c's that I have seen blow air through the radiator from the engine compartment out.
Let us know how you do!
