I had an 89' mustang 5.0 that we basically did the same thing. The baffle was up inside the wheel well and after you removed it the car did seem to breath a little better

My opinion was it wasn't worth my time. I gained nothing noticable that I can tell. If there is a couple more lbs-ft torque or HP, then Hazza! But I can't tell. . .Maybe with other mods it will make a difference? Dunno. Just my $0.02
Its a smooth tube that is as wide as the opening and reduces in diameter to the other end that attaches to the throttle body. Its inside the boxy, plastic part of the intake. Look inside, if it is round, curved and smooth, thats the intake silencer your looking at. If its not, then maybe someone beat you to it or fell asleep at the factory
