Strange noise!

I have a 2003 Explorer, V6 AWD, sometimes when I insert the key I start to hear a load clicking noise behind the dash panel. The noise will continue after the truck is started, of course the noise is intermittent and I cannot duplicate the noise at will. Has anyone else had this happen? Any suggestions as to where to start to find the cause. It sounds like it may be some kind of a relay but I'm not sure. As always I would like to thank you in advance for any help.

On my '03 4WD, I've never heard a loud relay click in the dash. Theres a relay for the defogger grid and flashers in the dash.
