Anyone have an idea on what my 460 is up to?
The 460 in my 1997 F250 (auto-trans) made a new and different noise this past weekend. I was pulling my 29ft 5th wheel up a steep grade in 2nd gear at about 3500 RPM. It’s about a 3 mile hill, when, near the top, it started making noises like it had lose tappets (tap, tap, tap) And, it was related to the engine’s rpm. No marble sounds, and it wasn't a pinging sound either.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

The noise started soft and grew louder and louder. Finally, when we crested the top, and shifted into 3rd and the noise faded away. <o></o>

Going down the other side, near the bottom of the hill, when I resumed speed on the flat road, it made load valve train tappet noises again for about a minute or so and then that noise faded away too. <o></o>
<o></o>
I have pulled this hill before, but without any problems. The engine has 92K on it. It’s a factory stock motor. I run premium gas in it.

Anyone have an idea as to what the heck is going on inside my engine<o></o>
