Anyone replace the rear stabilizer shock that is on the right side just in front of the rear differential? It's on my 99 explorer but can't find it in my repair manual.
Thanks, I have had a problem when towing with my truck. It will start swaying from side to side. I had the front end replaced and new shocks installed. Helped a little but just thought that may help.
I would recommend getting different sway bars to help the swaying. Makes a WORLD of difference. Look at a company called Explorer Express and check on their X-Spec Sway Bars for front and rear. I run them with Energy bushings. Huge difference over stock. I was concerned over their price at first, but after instlaling them, I think it was one of the best mods I did to the suspension.
Also - make sure you have enough tongue weight on your trailer. If you have a counterbalance of weight towards the rear of the trailer, the trailer will swing.
Another reason folks get rear end sway is too light a tire (2ply) as is installed OEM, I recommend installing a LT tire (6ply) if you are doing any major towing.
