Thumbs up MAF conversion

I am gathering parts for my f250 302 to install a mass air system using Mustang electronics. I have an A9L computer from a '92 Mustang, air intake tubes from a '96 f150, and connectors to make a harness. I am trying to find mass air flow sensor that will bolt up to this '96 f15o air cleaner lid. A '94 or '95 mustang mass air housing may work since it has a flange on the end of it, but I don't know if the sensor can be used with a '92 mustang ECM. Anyone convert using mustang parts? Also what else do I need? I heard something about having to add another O2 sensor and needing a VSS, etc. -Rich

you should only need the Y part of the intake tube and then just use a mustang unit from there on. or get one for a mass air equipped 302 from 94-95 truck/bronco would work

Hello, is there someone who really knows what they're doing that could help me with wiring part? Here's what I have and am doing. I have a 1992 F-250 5.8 w/ a ZF-S542 tranny. I'm swapping it to MAF and for the life of me can't find a proper description of the ECM pinout. I have a HOG0 computer (I know it's for an automatic) and would love to use it but I don't want the check engine light on so I'll probably get another ECM. So, would I be best to get a 94-96 5.0 5 speed ECM or go for an A9 Mustang ECM? I know that my stock ECM (before MAF conversion) is set for batch fired injectors and the Mustang is sequential, what I don't know is if the MAF F-150 is batch or sequential or if the MAF F-150 is batch fired is there enough power difference to go through all the trouble of re-pinning the injectors for a sequential Mustang ECM. With the HOG0 ECM I got the entire engine and under hood wiring harnesses, so I have all the MAF wiring but the engine was a 5.0 so the engine harness is slightly different (just the location of a couple things) so I'm sticking with my original 5.8 engine harness. So, basically what I need to know is if the ECM for a MAF F-150 is batch or sequential fired, if there is a big difference in power between the 2 if the MAF F-150 is still batch fired (because if there's a big difference and all the trucks those years are all batch fired then I'll be going for the power), but either way I want what's going to give me the most power, is the easiest to install after power is considered, and most importantly I need an actual breakdown of what wires get re-pinned in the ECM connector for whatever ECM that your expertise suggests. I'm going to be going from 351ci to 408ci and several other mods so I've got a Quarterhorse to retune it, I just need a definite what ECM is best for my truck, the easiest to install in my truck, is Quarterhorse compatible, and what wires go where. I've been researching this for a long time and all I've been able to find is how to pin the MAF sensor, but I've also seen that depending on the ECM I might have to re-pin my injectors, so if I do I need to know what injectors pin where. I'm begging for someone who knows the answer to please help me. Thanks in advance.

Dan, all the MAF trucks are sequential injection but they are also all automatics so those PCMs will be no good to you, get a Mustang PCM.. those are guaranteed to be tunable with a Quarterhorse too.

Once you have that use a 94/95 truck MAF wiring harness and repin it for the Mustang PCM.

Ok, another question. I now have an A9L ecm and the 94 MAF truck wiring and injector wiring for a 302 to do the conversion, but I found a new problem. My 92 F-250 5.8 came out dual exhaust and has dual 4 wire o2's, the ecm calls for dual 3 wire o2's, and according to all the wiring diagrams that I can find for my body style truck the only ones with 5.8's that had dual 4 wire o2's is a 95 5.8 CA emissions, all the rest are supposed to have a single 4 wire o2. The wiring is all original on my truck before the MAF conversion happens, so nobody went and chopped in another o2 sensor, because the passenger side one has it's own factory plug as does the drivers side. So, how does one re-wire a 4 wire dual o2 sensor truck to work with a dual 3 wire o2 sensor A9L ecm?

If it were me I would wire an ignition on 12v source (and ground) to a 3 wire O2 then you can jump the signal wire between the two contacts in the A9L. For my MAF I wired in 2 O2's, but am going to go to one and jump the signal. I think it simplifies the setup and eliminates a source of error only have 1 O2. I have learned that the ECM trims both banks simultaneously so there should be no downside in doing so.
