I am planing on replacing the stock speakers in my scab. I noticed that on the front door speakers (3.5-4") on the plate there is some type of control, Do i need the incorperate this into the the new speakers? I also am thinking about replacing the stock sub, but keeping the stock box and just upgrading the speaker, Do I need to add an amp or will I be able to run the after market 8" sub the same as the stock?
I don't have the audiophile but am considering the same upgrade. I think the control you speak of may be the crossover for the separate tweeter/mid range speakers. Most good (not cheap) speakers come with crossovers. I've been researching this and it seems Infinity speakers are the way to go, at least up front. They make a Reference component setup (one 6x8-stock size and one tweeter), seen it as low as $149 online, almost 200 at Crutchfield. As far as the rears, not sure what to go with yet, but they will be cheaper 2-way 6x8's.
Is your sub not powerful enough or doesn't produce the bass you like? In that dept. I'm thinking of an 8" Bazooka Tube over a custom box. The problem with the boxes are that they take up the whole area under the rear seat. Just my .02
The infinity reference components are crappy, I have them in my other car. Invest in something a little better.
If you think they're crappy then you did something wrong on the install. These are by far one of the best sounding affordable speaker setups there is. I ran them in my Expedition for 3 years with the MACH sound system and they were awesome! I ran the 6.5" component speakers in the front and the 5x7 2 ways in the rear. Best stereo mod I have ever done without changing the HU. Did you use the crossover? It sounds to me like you didn't. Or you might have them hooked up backwards.
Well, I suppose they may be better than other speakers for the price. I guess my point is, don't expect much from any of the components in that price range.
I wish I had spent more on some Kappas or MB Quarts or Bostons.
Yes I'm using the infinity crossovers and powering them with a 75w per front channel on my new JBL amp. I was hoping the jvc h/u amp was the culprit, but they're no different on the jbl. Maybe the quality on this JVC is garbage?

I would have to agree with central on this one I had the infinity speakers installed about 2 years ago and I was never happy with them to me they sounded worse than my oem speakers. About 8 months ago I had a new set of Bostons installed. Although they may have cost more I am very pleased with the speakers. I still run my factory mach Hu and every thing sounds great. I also did have the sub replaced both times. To me the best part about replacing just speakers and subs I keep my oem look in the dash and I can still use my wheel controls. Just my thought's
TN, you have the Kappa components or the 2-ways? I'm actually leaning towards the 2-way Kappa's over the Reference components. I don't think the components would make a huge difference in these trucks, unless you install them in the dashboard, more above and "in front of" the passengers. Plus, I think the door speakers sit too low in the door panels and are too far away to effectively work in concert with the attached tweeters. Just my opinion, which is actually worthless considering how much I know about car stereo installation.
I heard a nice set of Alpine 2 ways, 570 series (not the type R's-which is a really cheesy gimmicky name btw) that I think would fill the back doors better. Much better bass response audibly, plus they appear to respond to lower freq. than most other speakers in this size range. May just stick with this now and install a Pioneer 200w H/U to power them.
I don't know if the 2006's are any different, but my audiophile sounds awesome! The sub is perfect, play country sounds great, play 50 cent and it booms just enough. i can turn it almost all the way up and get no distortion!
The audiophiles are leaps above the stock XLT units, we can't get the audiophile setup. But upgrading over the audiophile will also improve performance, as long as you go with the right components. However, if you like the way your system sounds, then I say stick with it. More money to be spent on other upgrades!!!
