My new vacuum pump will be here today. On removing the pulley from the old one.....will just a regular 3 finger puller work?? I know the deal about putting the bolts in before I install it on the new one (kinda lame design). Any thing to watch for?
the 2 jaw is hard to get in there. the powersteering pully remover works best its the on that has a round die that has been cut in half with the collar that goes around the outside of it.
that is the same pump they use on the gmc/chevy 6.5TD's and the pulley is the smae size but it has more holes in it to get the bolts out easier.
next time my vac pump dies im going to hydroboost brakes and the small SD electric vac pump and ditchin that stupid thing.....
Yes you need a power steering pully remover and installer. I've done this twice now, different trucks, and you don't want to do it with out one. The link below is to a set from Harbor Freight, this is the one I got and it works fine.
