I was wondering how dificult it is to swap out my side mirrors (w/intengrated turn signals) for ones that are also heated? Also, where would I get some? I have a '97 Expedition EB.
I can't say for sure if this is 100% plug-and play on an Expedition, but I added heated side mirrors to my Taurus, and they were plug-and-play...no additional wiring needed. I just got the new mirrors and plugged them right in.
I modified my two standard mirrors in a old Ford Granada (Europe) without heated mirrors. A simple solution: Open carefully the mirror cover, and then glue or fastening ad lib a socket for a 21 - 45Watt buld ore something like that. Don't use halogen bulbs, they will maybe be to hot for the mirror plastic cover. Make two cables +/- from the socket, and then connect this to a switch with 12 volt supply (don't forget to use a fuse on the system). The heating from the bulbs, will be enough to melt away ice and snow. Simply, and very cheap.
N.B
Mount the buld as nearest you can on the backside of mirrors, and observe the distance from all plastic.
