It sounds like weak springs.

when you go forward the weight shifts and the front end lifts and in reverse the front end digs down?

that or your king pins are so worn that there is enough slop to let the camber change..

jack it up and wiggle the tire, if its solid, then its the springs.

Your kingpins are worn, badly from the sounds of it. If the last direction your were traveling in was forward, then they would tilt out. The opposite would be true if you backed it up and parked.

After you fix the kingpins, get your toe-in readjusted. It will probably be wrong after the repair.

Let us know how you do!

EDIT: Did you adjust the toe-in after replacing steering components?

my 86 f150 does the same thing and everything in the front of my truck is tight.i even had my buddies down at my shop align it for me.i dont know if this is true or not but from what ive heard from them this is normal on the older ford trucks.these guys have been in auto repair for 30 plus years.so i kinda trust what they say.

How the tires wear will be the ultimate judge.

Not allways. when you drive forward, the weight shifts and the front raises a bit, tires tilt out. When you back up it pushes the front down, tires tilt in. weak springs amplify this and make it very noticable at the tires.

After checking everything else mentioned, take a look at your shocks.

Bad radius arm bushings will cause that problem. Check for loosness with vehicle frame supported on jackstand and wheels about 1" clear above ground. Also check pivot bushings.
