I have a 3MB DSL connection, but lately I have been noticing a lot of web pages are going very slowly. Especially hotmail. I can't even check the mail because the connection times out when I try to sign in. It's been happening to other random websites as well. Has anyone else noticed any speed issues or do I need to start hunting down some local problems?
I have 3mb cable modem and I've noticed it as well. Downloading on some sites takes so long that you could time them with a calendar. But I was told that the whole Billings area is getting a free upgrade to 8mb this week. I can't wait.
It's only on certain websites that I notice the problem. Ebay, Yahoo, FTE...they all go at blazing speeds. I run Zonealarm firewall and a spyware blocker. It don't think it's cookies or anything else because I've cleared all of the cache, etc. It all started just a few days ago.
If it' only on certain sites then it may be their site and not your connection.
It could be dang near any reason though, Aren't computers great?
Maticuno, I see you are a california fellow. Who is your provider? I live in Temecula and use Adelphia for my internet and haven't had to many problems with them.

I know a couple years ago I noticed the internet was really slow and it turned out there was a major virus going around clogging up bandwidth everywhere.
Remember that with DSL your distance from the Transmission box plus the number of people in your neighborhood using the net at any given time will effect your net speeds. If there happen to be alot of people online that happen to share the same service as you then you will be sharing bandwidth with them. The more on the slower it gets.
Number of people on line will slow down the speed with cable. I believe DSL will not slow down because of this. I have done speed tests (DSL) are different times of the day, and when the internet seems slow.
All of my speed tests are just about the same. I know this site will be "slow" when a lot of users are on it. I have gotten the "server busy" message a number of times.
I just ran a speed test and I'm getting around 1.3M/s. That is plenty fast for me. And it is not the whole internet that is slow. Just certain sites like Hotmail. Even Myspace (very slow and unreliable server) is working well for me.
