i am still in the market for new tires, and I have found a good deal on a set of Nitto terra grapplers in 285/75/R16. The only thing I am hesitant on is that they are a load range D tire, and my current BFG's all terrains are load range E. I don't haul around a lot of weight in the back of my truck, and I pretty much only tow a jet ski or a snowmobile trailer. So my question is, should I worry about putting 8 ply or load range D tires on a f-250 diesel? THANKS!
d's are about all you will find in the 285/75R16. i have never even seen load range e 285's the tire dealer we get tires from don't offer any of them in the tires i use. so you will be fine especially from what you say you do with your truck
The Nitto's are made in both D and E load range ratings. From Discount Tire Direct: "The Terra Grappler A/T is Nitto's first light truck/sport utility tire to be offered in D- and E- load ratings."
Don't see a problem if your not overloading your truck. Have used lots of D s on my overloded work truck with no tire related problems. Couldn;t get e's in BFG A\T 285's so went ahead with the E's. Till Boss man spotted the 285's and had them changed back "for legal reasons". Seems if there is a accedent and there have been mods on our trucks not spected out by the engineers they are liable for accident. Sounds like a bunch of BS to me.

Actually, load range (letter designation) is NOT a factor of load weight rating. Load range is a value given to the sidewalls' ability to flex under LATERAL forces. A load range "D" tire is going to have more sidewall deflection during turning and similar lateral forces than a load range "E".
For example:
I had a set of 49" Super Swampers. Load range "C" tires. 6 PLY sidewall. Sounds kind of puny for a F350 LB/CC PSD right? Well, consider that the weight rating on the tires was over 3600 pounds per tire at 25 PSI........
My load range "E" 265's that I used to run were only good for 3350 pounds at 80 PSI.
