AFE vs. AIS

I went back and looked at some of the thread, but didnt see what I was looking for.
Which filter system is better, the AFE stage 2 or the AIS. Price is not an issue, I am wondering which system actually flows and filters better?

Im just getting into mods on my truck and want to do it right the first time.

I have an aFe Magnum Force Stage II intake and I must say it is impressive. I don't know if you wouldn't be just as well off with the Kwik filter mod though. My truck came with the aFe on it (bought it with 110k miles) and while I think it is a great intake (perhaps the best, perhaps not), if the truck had a stock intake I would have gone for the much cheaper Kwik mod and used the extra hundreds of $ for other things, chips, exhaust, etc. I know you said $ doesn't matter, but seriously I don't know if the aFe (or AIS, for that matter) is THAT much better, if at all, than the Kwik mod. Yes, my Stage II is a whole new "intake system" even relocating the battery, but I would think it's approaching diminishing returns. But if you MUST divest yourself, the aFe IS sweet. No knowledge on the AIS, but I'm sure it's a real beauty too; either way I would think you're getting top of the line.

The Kwik mod sounds great, but I am on dusty roads a bunch and it sounds like that is a concern with it.

Thanks for your help.

The AFE Stage II w/ the PG7 filter media is one of the highest flowing and best filtering cominations out there according to some tests i've read.

The AIS is a supreme filtering unit with high flow too.

For street purposes i feel the AIS or Kwik Mod 6637 setup is your best bang for the buck. Big fuel, big oil, bigger turbo or towing 20klbs....doesn't matter. They'll provide all the air u could ask for.
My $.02.

I have the K&N FIPK, and it works great, sounds great, and all that. I am still thinking of taking off the K&N filter, but leaving the tube to replace it with the "kwik" 6637 fitler.

Just my $.02

I have the AFE II with the PG7 filter and have nothing to compare to but I could fill the differnece the first time I put my foot into it!
IMOP you can not beat the price of the Kwiks mod, but I think that the AFE stage II will give you more "cold air" than Kwiks ....unless someone out there has fabed thier own shroud for the filter?
Anyway, the best price I found for mine was here....http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/

TXsnyper, while you may be impressed with the K&N, you do need to replace it. I have heard too much anecdotal evidence of trashed motorcycle cylinder plating and other damaged engines (including diesels) because of K&N usage.

If you live in urban, humid areas with no dust, no problem. But, in order to get such impressive flow, the K&N design simply lets too much dust through. I saw a study that compared flow rates and particulate filtering for a number of different filters. It was several years old, but K&N hasn't changed their basic filter design. (I have tried to find it again, but so far, I haven't). K&N was dead last on filtering capability.

The Kwik mod 6637 filter will allow more air through than a Powerstroke can use and will filter as good or better than anything short of an AIS.

By the way, from all I've read King Filter for the Powerstroke is the AIS - it flows very well (plenty for the mildly modded engines most of us have) and filters better than anything else. Period.

I bought my X with a K&N fipk - changed the filter with a AFE and a afe sock. If you live in dusty, dry areas, I would get that sock over your afe or k&n. Extra filtration, keeps your filter from getting dirty as fast and the sock is easy to clean. Kinda pricey though.

I had the 6637 filter on for a year and it still looked good inside and out. I live in the city and do a little driving down dirt roads.

I agree with Rckymtn. I have a MAC with a K&N Outerwear. It saves a lot of filter maintenance.
