20"tires are standard with the roush package, so they must have the correct speedo gear in there

On a 400 Mile Trip, I averaged about 19mpg...not bad for a supercrew with a 4.6 at 70mph

I just noticed that Blackchamp is talking about the same truck I looked at yesterday. That one also had a 4.6 which I am now rethinking.

My SD has a 5.4 and I never get less than 15 mpg with it. It also has more than enough power even in the heavier truck.

I wish Champ would post some pics! I take it you must be a fellow New Englander?

2004 F150 supercrew lariat 5.4 4x4 with 23K miles- Gas mileage has been terrible since I bought it. On the 30 gallon tank I range between 300 and 375 miles. I've never gotten the readout on the dash to say better than 14.8 mpg and I had to drive it like a baby to get that! I've been taking the truck to the dealer since it had 300 miles on it because I could tell the mileage was atrocious. if i drive the truck only around town, it will go as low as 10.5- 11.5 mpg. What sucks is that I know alot of people with the same truck that say they get 16-18. I couldnt get that going downhill! Im thinking of pusuing California lemon law. I have all of my gas receipts except a couple and im working on a spreadsheet to show mpg for each tank of gas and lifetime total mpg. If it wasnt for the mileage I would really love this truck.

I think that this is a rather hit and miss issue...

Mixed loop driving for me with the new tires and lift (at least with two tanks of gas through it and 18,000 on the odometer) I have been getting 17...and that is without the speedo correction...

I got into one tank of gas and just romped on it the whole time...always into the throttle hard...it was by far the worst mileage I got but it was 15 mpg...

My thoughts on this are as follows...you wanna get good gas mileage...go get a Honda or Toyota Hybrid...you got a truck...what were you expecting?

My 04 5.4l won't get over 14.5 mpg with mixed city highway driving. My buddies 2003 Chevy Silverado with the 5.3l will make 17.5 mixed driving and on a trip to Florida he got over 21 mpg highway only. Also the 5.3l feels like it has more power then my 5.4l Ford.

I dunno what to tell you guys...my 4.6 feels just fine to me...I have driven a few diffrent trucks...older F-150, old and new Chevy's...even a Dodge with a 4.7....and I am completely happy with mine...On a good, long trip...say Houston to Dallas I can get 19 mpg using cruise. I know I can't haul as much as one with a 5.4 and the beefier diff, and I don't plan on trying.

I can only say I don't know what is diffrent in this equation here...mine isn't modified, either...no aftermarket tune, no K&N or silencer removed, no nothing. Don't have a bed-cap either.

I have noticed that some places also have gas that will affect mileage...somthing else for you to think about...

Heres some good news, 2300Mi, just filled up, somehow got 15mpg, towing two sleds for about 100 of it...Do you guys think the cold weather makes the EFI richen the mixture? Temps have been up, driving conditions have been the same as usual. Oh yeah the STX with 20" skins rides like a brick, but I love this truck!!! People I talk to seem to say mileage will go up after what seems to be a long break-in.

Got my new 06 XLT 5.4L Scab last Saturday. Filled up for the first time yesterday, 391 miles @ 16.04 MPG. Thats combined 75 MPH interstate, rural highway and in town driving. I hope it stays this good, thats already 1 MPG better than my 98 4.6L was.
