Dual Mass Flywheel
Last summer I replaced the DM flywheel with a LUK clutch, solid flywheel and slave/master cylinder. The solid flywheel is MUCH more durable than the factory dual mass. A new DM flywheel alone from the dealer will run you close to a grand and certainly not worth it. One big reason I replaced it is because I am now towing a 35 foot fifth wheel and I was concerned that a DM wouldn't last as long as a soild flywheel. The only thing I noticed is that the LUK clutch engages more on the "top" of the pedal but otherwise performs well and is very smooth with no chatter. I was able to get mine locally at Precision Clutch and Gear which is near Detroit Metro Airport, all the parts set me back about 700 bones. While you have the tranny out I would replace the rear main seal with a new seal from your FORD dealer. Perhaps you can find yours locally and save some ca$h on shipping, VERY heavy!!! Good Luck!!!

my dual mass only made is 50k miles and 90 percent of the miles on the truck are with a 12k horse trailer behind it and ive got 240k on it now. ive been runnin the same flywheel since 99 and im on my 4th friction pack. the next time i need a clutch i will have to put a flywheel in it was a little on the thin side last one i did but i didnt have time to wait for the flywheel so it went back togethor. im pretty demandin of my truck i abuse the clutch when i need to.....
