F350 question

I have somewhat gotten a 1986 F350 standard cab dulley given to me. The catch is about $800 for engine work that I had to do to get it running. It has a diesel engine and is a (new) shortblock as I am told. The truck sat for about 8 years and then I got it. I painted it for a guy but he never picked it up so long story short it is mine now.

Question, when I shift into drive it seems to be slipping. You have to rev up a little before the trans engages and then not all the way it seems. I checked the fluids and they were over full (don't know how). The trans will go into rev GREAT no problems going backwards just can't go forwards. 1, 2, and Drive are affected. Is there anything I can do...or does the truck need a new trans.

Thanks for your input

Joe

I would pull the pan on the tranny and see what it looks like in there. If you see a bunch of metal in the pan, that will not be a good sign.
