Actually, it's usually TWO screws, with anti-tamper Torx heads - the type with the pin in the center.
actually, it's four bolts that hold it into the MAF assembly itself....the two screws are what holds the MAF together and don't need to be taken off...
at least not on the 5.4 that i have and have taken apart to clean already.

I think we're talking about two different things.
The MAF sensor as a complete unit, and the sensor itself. To remove the sensor itself, there's two anti-tamper Torx screws hold it to the body, and CAREFULLY remove the sensor (and filaments) from the body. There's paint on the screws, so if it's tampered with, it's obvious - might void the warranty on the MAF - if you're still under warranty.
Maybe you're talking about the entire body? As in, remove the hoses from each side, and to remove the ENTIRE MAF assembly is FOUR bolts?

I wish I had pictures...
I think you're right.
I think we're both right LOL.
I know the paint and screws you are talking about....but i was able to disasseble mine and still spray her down without taking the two torx screws off...i think i cleaned it
We are getting a "Service Engine Soon" light on our 5.4 Excursion. I don't remember the codes, but our local Autozone told us that both sides of the engine are running lean. The 3 fixes they gave us were 1.) the fuel filter (just changed last summer), 2.) the O2 sensors (I have trouble believing that both went out at the same time) and 3.) the MAF sensor. Would cleaning the MAF sensor clear this problem? We replaced it as well last year when we replaced the fuel filter as we were trying to get rid of a miss that did not give any trouble lights. That problem was fixed by replacing 2 boots on the COP.

i would definitely try cleaning the MAF sensor and try a bottle of Techron concentrate or regane in the tank.
