I unpluged the egr on my 06 f350 and the check engine light came on which i knew would happen so i plugged in my scmt and tried to clear the codes to get the check engine light to turn off but was unable to get the light to turn off. Any suggestions.
called superchips they said the check engine light will always stay on because afteryou clear the dtc code the next time you start it it will come back on.
i unpluged my egr on my 03 and i do not have a check engine light come on?
wounder why, i thought i would also
i also had it in to the dealer for other work and they flashed and checked codes and did not say anything to me
The 06 model now has 50 state emissions. This means the CEL comes on when you unplug the EGR. Prior to 06, I believe only the CA trucks would turn on the CEL with the EGR unplugged. Gotta love the EPA..... NOT!!!!!
If you leave it unplugged will it cause any long term problems for the engine? I unplugged my 05 and it ran much better. The cel light is on but I can live with that.
I was told by my ford tech after talking to him about the EGR putting the black smoke from my SCMT back into my intake that, with the new flashes, it’s not worth it to mess with the EGR. According to him, the early flashes DID hold it open too often, and would often get stuck, so it was worth messing with. However, the new EGR valves have a redesigned mating surface, to prevent sticking. The new flash also “exercises” the valve, meaning that if the valve is running half open, instead of just closing it, occasionally the computer will open it all the way and slam it shut, keeping it from sticking. The tech also said that with the newer flashes, the EGR only opens up in steady state modes (extended idle, cruise conditions), and that it closes when the accelerator is moved any significant distance.
This is what I was told by my tech, and I have enough confidence in his ability to believe him, so take this for what its worth.

I plugged mine back in. It ran much slower, tranny felt jerky.. the boost went from about 25 (was running about 28ish before the ford re-flash) to about 21.
