OK Ford gurus, I've got a question. Has anyone plugged a MP3 player into a factory 6-Disc CD player in a SD? The only thing I can verify is the existence of the Aux port, but I'd like to know if anyone's done it. TIA.
You will need something like P.I.E.'s adapter to convert the semi-proprietary CAN bus (or AUX port) port on the back of the deck to more usable RCA jacks.
That, unfortunately, I do know the answer to- no. A stereo shop should be able to fit the bill though (Guess what my next phone call will be tomorrow).
I bought an adapter for $60 from Crutchfield that plugs into the changer first then the orignal plug goes into that adapter. You end up with two RCA female plugs where you can plug the headphone to RCA jack wiring adapter into.
Net result is iPod direct through the OEM sound system.
I have purchased two PIE adapters. 1 for my 350 and the other for the focus. They plug right into the aux port on back of radio. CD quality sound. The modulator works but the sound quality isn't as good. I used mine for about 6 months and upgraded. What a difference
I would go with an adapter before going with an FM modulator. I had (actually still have) a DLO TransPod. I paid extra for it, as it had gotten better reviews than many of the others.
When I got my F250 & installed P.I.E.'s AUX port adapter, the difference was almost amazing. I can now hear more of the highs & more of the lows; so the overall sound range is greatly improved. And, it completely got rid of all the oddball interference(s) & bleed-throughs that used to ocurr. (With the FM modulator, I could actually here the hard drive if it spun up during a lull in a song or between two songs.)
