Some of you know that I have a 55 F-250. The PO hacked the crap out of it and cut waaaay too much off the back of it.. Its originally an 8 foot bed, its probably 6.5' now. The back of the fenders are just a couple of inches from the back of the truck, it looks pretty bad.
So anyway, I've got all of the catelogs for all of the best suppliers. I've looked through all of them, searched online, searched in the forums, and I can't find any custom beds made for the F-250. I know Midfifty supplies custom beds for the F-100, several actually, but none in the catelog for the F-250.
I will probably have to buy a whole new bed anyway, so I was wondering if any of you have run across any custom F-250 short beds.. Same width as the long bed, same wheel/fender position, but about 7' instead of 8' long.
I suppose that I could buy a long bed and cut the back of it off, but then the post holes would be off centered since there are three.
I've also heard that some guys shorten the frame and place the axle closer to the cab... Not sure if I want to do all that..
If you are interested in a new bed you can try Dan Carpenter in SC. He makes custom beds for '48-52 3/4 trucks. They aren't exactly the same, they don't have the raised panels but otherwise look like the originals. He might be able to make the exact bed you are looking for. I have never bought from him but emailed a guy who did and he was very happy with his box.
Jeff, I don't think that a short bed will work in this application ...... a matter of wheelbase so I dont think that it will work. I would try a metal fabricator locally and see if they can make some custom bed sides for you. Would probably be about the same in price as I think the panel's for the long bed run about $400-$500. Check it out .... won't hurt. Your perdicament is unusal to say the least, so I would try to go that way.
I like the idea of having it made locally if you can locate a welding shop to do it. A friend had a bed made up for his and the price was quite reasonable. Can`t hurt to find out what it`s like in your area.
See if you can find an old bed or just the side rails at maybe Webster. Give me a call have mig welder, will work something out on the cost to weld her up. Joe
Jeff, have you ever thought about a flatbed??? To see a nice one: go to carnut.com....then Ford....then "1956"....then flatbed.

Right now I'm in the planning phase. I'm not totally sure of what I'm going to do with it yet, so I'm trying to get ideas and see what my options are. Pretty sure I don't want to do a flat bed.. no offense I checked out that Bruce Horkey guy's webpage and I like his F-250. He's got a long bed, and it doesn't look too bad.. He's also got some nice looking 8 lug wheels.. Didn't know they made nice ones jk
If you've looked at my pictures in my gallery you'll see that the PO had a new paint job done on a dinged up body.. Inside the cab and under the truck on the undercarriage its pretty dirty and there is some surface rust.. Whats the best/easiest way of getting it all off at once? Aircraft stripper? Media blasting? Acid dipping?
