Like Torque1st mentioned, use a Motorcraft brand. "Solid State Ignition System Amplifier Module" (AKA silver box, ignition modulator, ignition module, duraspark module, there so many names to list) Use the blue or brown series of module. Here is a thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...gnition+module
I completally agree the $10 duraspark autozone ignition modules aren't worth a poo, after a short while it will melt down and leave a very hard if not impossible resedue to remove.
If you have an O'Reilly Auto Parts nearby, they carry the Motorcraft module. At least they did a couple of years ago when I purchased mine. Stick with Motorcraft wherever possible, not just in this case.
Just an update on my findings...I thought I'd look over all of my ignition wiring and related harnesses. I found the distributor harness cracked and in very bad shape. It wasn't plugged in completely, and the female side had a bunch of corrossion (green) build up. I believe I should probably start with this problem in trying to eliminate possible causes to my engine killing over suddenly. Does anyone know where to find a distributor harness? Surely I don't have to replace the entire distributor to accomplish this.
There is a pickup module inside the distributor that includes the wires. They are readily available at any parts store and can be tested, but if the wiring and connector is trashed replace it. A Motorcraft part is not critical in this application.
