Exhaust brake

I finally got around to setting it up. I only have the brake on a toggle switch right now and will hook it up to work with the brakes soon, but just to be able to use it at all is nice. The wife just wanted it disconnected (the EBPV), as having it come on intermitantly while driving (while warming up) actually caused her to loose control of the truck on an icy hill once. So, I though this was the perfect oportunity. Now I can still use it to warm the truck and as a brake. Thanks for the idea guys.

Hey Fullcrew7.3 sounds like you got everything set up. Did you wire your toggle switch to work like stock for cold start ups in the off position, or did you cut it off and make it only turn on when your switch is on to keep it from turning on in scary situations? Last weekend I finally got to "test" mine. Down a 6% grade with a full horse trailer, downshifted into 4th, turned it on, and it couldnt push me down the hill more than 55. Pretty cool, before I would have to mash the brakes to keep that speed. Im with you, thanks for the simple yet great idea guys.

So far I just have it set up to be on or off. I put in a double poled switch(or whatever they're called) so I can hook up to the brake light circuit at a later date. The wife said either do it now or disconnect it entirely. Hmmmm, what would you do?
That sounds Awesome. I'm looking forward to the first time I actually get to put it to good use. I've used it a lot already, but haven't had a chance to really see what it'll do.

So do you turn it on when warming up and then off when driving and then turn it on again going down hills or whenever you use it?? how well does it work? does it work as good as using the brakes? and also does it sound like the P-builts jake braking it going down a hill??? that woudl be awsome!
is it worth getting?? i was looking at 1 today in a bully dog mag and looks pretty shaweet.
have fun with it!

It does sound pretty sweet. On cold mornings I will turn it on and the exhaust sounds like a jet , kinda skreechy. Also turns heads when driving around campus. As for going down a hill with it on it sounds like the intake is muffled, and it really does slow you down. I was also looking at that bully dog exhaust brake and they wanted like $400 for it. You can make you own for a lot less or order the one from gtsmotorsports.com for $50. Either way I am glad I didnt gut the ebpv.

You have to use you brakes to stop, and it depends on how fast you want to stop to. It has been said that it is most effective between 2500-3000rpms. No I didnt use the gts kit because I didnt want the option that turns on the brake when you let up on the pedal. I know a few peole that have and say they love that option. I used a moroso switch panel from summitracing to turn it on or off, plus I have 4 more switches to hook up other crap. Either way it is a great deal.

It's anly really effective above 2000rpm. You canstill feel it pulling down to 1500 though. If you use it as well as down shifting, you can get most of your speed reduced. It's not as effective as the wheell brakes, but this way you don't have to where out your pads/shoes as fast.
Same as Foreman, I put it on while warming up and then turn it off while driving. I have had it on while driving (at reduced rpm for shorter periods) when I need to leave NOW and don't have time for a complete warm up before driving.
As I only have it on the switch, it's totally maual, but then again, it only cost me $10 Canadian. And that's only because I got a double throw switch so I can hook it up to the brake light later.
As for sound, with the open exhaust, every head turns! Sounds just like my cousins Freightliner. Although a little smaller. And yes, it does sound like a jet when idling too.
