I've got a '72 F350 2wd with a PTO that comes out of the tranny. My problem is the 'Y' pipe. the old one came out quite easily, rust had made it flexible. My question is how do you get the new one in. So far I've gotten the closest with the exhaust manifold and starter removed and going at it from the top. Maybe it is necessary to remove the PTO(is it as easy as it seems??) and reinstall it afterwards.
What the hell is a PTO (parent teacher organization)?
You can always cut the left side pipe before the Y and then mend with a little splice and a couple clamps. Whitney sells a splicing sleeve that looks like it would work really well for around $8.00.
OK, I am seriously intrigued by this factory PTO. A buddy and I were discussing this just this morning. I can think of several great uses for a PTO on a work truck. I've got a 67 F250 2WD and would love to hear from anybody with knowledge on this setup and the feasibility of installing a system as an afterthought.
PTO - drives a pump for the dump on my truck. there is a plate on the side of the four speed that is where the PTO bolts up, and that is about all I know about it. This is the first truck I've had with one. ... I've been thinking about the exhaust all day at work and I am going to unbolt the tranny mount and see if I can get the whole thing to shift enough to the side to get the pipe by. I don't want to start cutting and splicing. I figure if the factory could get the pipe in there must be a way and hoped someone had some experience with this.
pto can be used on all np 205 transfer cases its a rectangular plate thats held on with six bolts its on both sides of the transfer case and i believe the np435 tranny has pto capabilities, just check for thee plate its probably 4''x6''
I once wrassled in a Y pipe while I had tranny and engine in my truck. It didn't have the 4 sp though it was a 302/C6. It was a hard thing to do. I found that I had to remove the tranny support crossmember, while front of the truck was jacked up, and tranny supported be a floorjack. If you could figure out how to remove the other crossmember just below the front of the cab, that might help.
