I ask you guys too.

I've got the chance to pick one up for $500 bux (I doubt any less as the seller knows what hes got.)

Its got either 57k or 70k (don't remember which).

He was saying its not as good as the older ones but I was thinking, "its a 429."

Is my thinking correct?

depends on the heads, if they are D2's, leave it, or plan on replacing the heads. The earlier D0's are great but put the compression pretty high depending on the application (mine ended up using av gas...) D3 heads aren't bad for smog heads and can be ported just as big as the earlier heads according to the 429/460 forum guys. I have D3's on the 460 in my truck now. favorite block is the D1VE. I thought the 429 was pretty much done in the cars by 73, could be wrong... Don't remember how long they ran in the trucks (light duty, not the heavy duty versions)

I've seen a bunch in my area going for between 200-800 depending on condition, check out www.seattle.craigslist.com in the for sale section, auto parts and do a search for 429 or 460. I picked mine up for 700, with really low miles (and a few problems to take care of too, but still a steal)

If I were to get this I'd stuff it full of new pistons and probably alum. heads/intake along with the other stuff.
