i was under the 73 today replacing the inner t.r. end and doing some other tightening up of things. i know i need to replace the i-beam pivot bushing but the rivets that hols the bracket in place are loose. you can see where the cross member is bent from a hard hit(drunken ditch dive from previous owner). what is the best way to repair this? i know ill have to cut the rivets out but do i use grade 8 bolts or something else?
Drill out the holes so that the new bolts fit tight in the holes. Check for cracks around the holes. Use Locktite on the nuts. If the bracket or the frame is deformed you will need to get new parts or consult a frame repair expert.
If you have a heavy truck repair body shop nearby, call them and see if they have a "Huck Rivet" gun. Maybe they would install huck rivets for you for a small fee.
