I have one female dovetail on the passenger side that needs replacing, I see they are spot welded and riveted into place. New ones are available and I was looking for advice as to what to do with the rivet, replace it with another rivet or bolt it. I would like it to look as original as possible so I guess a rivet is the best option for that but it is more difficult to put in.
I think there a procedure that I seen in one of the online catalogs that shows how to replace them without removing the rivet. Somehow you push the plastic peice in and it will pop out.
I drilled mine out and put stainless screws in place to hold it in. The inside pieces are easy to remove and replace if the brackets are good. That would be the easiest way to go.
Thanks, yours looks good. I quess it is not a big deal to replace the rivets. I see there are repair kits to replace the dovetails without removing the brackets.
I am also painting my truck Red and have not decided on the particular shade, what is your color called, looks really good.

I am using Toyota Super Red. Maybe Supra Red. Using PPG Omni base/clear.
Thanks, I have been leaning toward a GM torch red, also I saw a 2003 Thunderbird on Barret-Jackson that looked good, I think Ford has a torch red as well. Once it is painted that what it is.
