Smile Newbie Upgrade - Superchips 1700 Programmer

I purchased a 1700 Superchips Programmer off E-Bay. Can any of you tell me if it tells you of diagnostic codes and also if you can adjust for non stock tires? I have a bare bones stock truck and this will be my first power upgrade, will I notice quite a difference? I await your replies.

I hate to see that no one has answered your post yet. I don't know much about the Superchips programmers, but it can't be all that bad. Superchips has been around for a long time. After you get it in you should compare the performance to what you paid for the programmer. You be the judge. I do recommend that you do the kwik filter before the programmer is in. The filter is a cheap yet VERY effective upgrade.

Just search the forum for "kwik filter" and you will get the part # (6637 from napa) and all the "how to".

Good luck with all, but most of all have fun with your truck. Hope you have good self control. Reading this forum, you can develope P.M.S. very very fast.

P=powerstroke
M=modification
S=syndrome

Iceman - I THINK that the 1700 is just a tuner, and not a code reader - I'm not a 100% sure on that though.... That's the older one with just 2 tunes on it I believe? I know the SCMT 1705 has 3 tunes, and IS a code reader, as I used to have one.

ALSO - I'd suggest that, at the VERY least, you get yourself an EGT gauge (pyrometer) before you load any tunes on your rig. Adding fuel, especially without other upgrades like an intake & exhaust, can get the temps rising in a hurry!

I have the 1700 and no you cant pull codes with it, and no you cant adjust for non stock tires. I think it has 60hp and 115tq, then 80hp and 130tq, and you can raise the speed limiter. Yes you wiil notice a difference, my friend put it in his 02 and he noticed a big difference. I also suggest to get a egt gauge if you are hauling because they will get up there pretty easily!

Your power modding will begin after the tuner. You're going to realize how much power has been stored away in your truck and once you load a program you're gonna want to find out how much power really is stored away by adding intake, exhaust, redo tuner for a DP chip , ball bearing turbo, better HPOP, bigger injectors then you'll think; holy crap what have I done, I spent almost half of what my house costs on my truck.

I had a SC 1700 Tuner for a while.. Much stronger with the 80hp tune on my truck than the SC 1705 tuner on the 90hp tune.It wont pull codes though. And yes you need gauges if you pull anything at all. Even empty, egt will get up there if you stand on it to long.
