On the tranny in my truck the transfer case is mounted directly to it, then there is a sleeve or something coming out from the transfer case to the driveshaft. I just bought a tranny that I want to put it. Can I just remover this part, (don't know what it is called) put my transfer case between them and stick it back in my truck, or did I just blow some cash on an expensive boat anchor?
Derek
P.S.
My truck is a '76 F-150 with a 360 or a 390, (not sure which) with a C6 tranny and a NP205 T-Case.
Thanks for your help.
Is the sleeve big enough that it is all around the driveshaft?
Does it look homemade? It could be an attempt to keep the driveshaft from dropping if the front u-joint broke. I haven't seen anything like this on a stock truck, but you never know, there are a lot out there.
Dave,
79 F-150 4x4, 390 w/C6, Edelbrock carb, 33X12.50 never will be finished.
Not sure what your refering to either, but, could it be what they call a CV or double cardan joint. It would look like a "tube" coming out of the 'case, but has a double set of u-joints in it? Rear most would have the clips to retain the u-joint and on the 'case side there would be 12 point heads on the yoke instead of straps like at the diff, with clips to hold the other two cups on that one? If it is this, the whole thing should bolt up to the 'case, if it has the same yoke on it. If it doesn't, you may have to remove the yoke from the old to put on the new, if this is what it is.
