Was ABS optional on a 2000 Limited 4x4? I had the X out last night in some mild snow, and it slid at one point when braking. No biggie, I'm used to it in the Suburban, but being a 2000 truck I just assumed it would have ABS.
I'm curious about this as well. I too got on the brakes pretty good in some snow and had no ABS kick in. Not a big deal, but I was surprised. Mine is a 2000 XLT......
Interesting Sled. Well, apparently we don't have ABS. That's OK, because I don't much care for it anyway. One thing I meant to check was if there was an ABS light on the dash that lights up when the truck is started, or when the key is in the run position. The truck's with my wife at work now, so I'll have to wait until this afternoon.
I'm running BFG TKO 265's that are nearly new. In most cases, I can stop no problem. The couple times that I slid, I had a trailer on back in the snow. I'm not too concerned about it. I learned to drive in vehicles with out it so it's just icing on the cake now. But, on the next snowy day I'll go stomp on it in a parking lot a few times and see what it does. If it still doesn't trip the ABS I'll start looking into possible problems.
We have nearly new 265 BFG Long Trail TA's on ours. Not aggressive at all, but they seem to fare well in the snow. I didn't really need 4wd until it got over 4" deep or so.
When I slid, I was in 4wd, snow packed/icy road. I was doing about 20 MPH. I then reached the same speed, and jammed on the brakes to see if the ABS would activate, and it didn't. There's no ABS light lit when the truck is running, so I'm assuming all is well.
I have slid pretty good before in my Ex... dry roads.. 45 mph and panic breaking and steering when someone pulled out in front of me. Tires didn't totally lock up, but I was definately sliding, but could still steer. I think this is what ABS is designed for. I will say this.. I was surprised at how agile a 8,000lb vehicle at 45 mph was, never did hit the guy that pulled out in front of me. He was in a Ford Focus and I would have hated to see what it would have done if I had t-boned him at 45.
