Does anyone out there know where to find a trans yoke & a "shim plate" for a 73 C4 Tranny? It's mated to a 65 289 & being installed into a 62 F100. HELP!?Thanks,
Tim
If it's a 65 289, you could have either a 5 or 6 bolt bellhousing pattern on the block. As for a drive yoke, it uses the same 28 spline ones that just about 90% of Fords used up to the present. For a block plate ( that's what goes between the block and bellhousing) Mustangs Unlimted sells new 6 bolt ones for 157 tooth bells, not sure about the larger 164 tooth ones. 157 & 164 tooth denotes the flexplate size. They each work with different bellhousings, your 73 C-4 could be either, better check before buying. The block plate indexes the starter to the flywheel/flexplate. Some have gotten away without it, but most who try leaving it out don't.
You'll also want to match the yoke for the right U-joint size too. 28 spline yokes aren't all the same. There's at least three different sizes for U-joints. Then there's a few different lengths too, to add to the confusion. Happy Hunting
Not all C4 trannys share the same block plate. The C4 came with two or three different models and they all had different torque convertors which also changed the starter location.
