fuel injector

i have a 96 psd and it started to run bad I had a diagnostics test run on it and it said that the number eight injector was going out. But I heard that you cant just change one out you have to change them all. Is this true and where can i get info on how to change it out

you can just change one, how many miles are on it?

theres some sites that have good injector r&r

swampdonkey dot biz has a very detailed write up on it. you can replace the injector or you can get them rebuilt. beans diesel performance does all my injector work

if the injectors havent ever been outta the truck i would go through them all for a reliability standpoint then you shouldnt have to worry about it again for another 182K

yeah i agree do em all and maybe have em built up a little too. chances are more will start to go soon also.

Did the test say #8 injector was bad? Or was it "intermittent or open circuit" on #8 injector? Engine sounds the same in either case. If the second one, it's likely that the harness under the valve cover is defective. I had #8 injector replaced under warranty at 80k miles, then had the same problem at 140k. turned out to be the harness. The old harness used a plastic clip to hole the connector to the injector; new one uses a metal spring clip.

if you give us a little more info we can help you diagnosis this better. is there a check engine light? if there is then you probably have an eletrical issue rather than a mechanical issue with an injector. the cylinder contirbution test is the only test that could tell you if you have a mechanical problem like the injector not firing or low compression. but if the CEL is one then you could ahve a bad injector but there are about 10 other things it could be also.

injectors aren't cheap so you don't want to just throw one in there and hope it fixes the problem.
