I know this question has been beat to death, but here is my situation. I just purchased a 2004 F250 PSD CC with 16,000 miles. I am not sure of the last oil change, so just to be safe I want to change it tomorrow before I take off on a 350-400 mile trip. My local autozone has this filter for the truck will it be OK?

Also, this truck will be mostly used for personal use and will never pull anything larger than a 6X12 box trailer with 3 4 wheelers. I know a little over kill just to pull abot 1500lbs!!!, but hey I love this truck!
1. What intervals do you suggest I change fuel and oil filters? Considering this is more of a comuting vehicle instead of a work horse.
KW is right and make sure if you do it yourself to keep good records and reciepts. Look in the owners manual in the back it will have a spot for maintance. Log the dates and mileage . Ford says 7500 miles for oil an 15000 for fuel filters. I do mine at 5k for oil just for the fact thats what I'm used too but at the price for oil I'm thinking hard on the 7.5k. I also did oil, fuel, and trans filters at 10k. Rotate the tires and go to go. Don't forget to drain the HCFM if you don't change filters. Good Luck
if its a highway commuter you could do the full 7500 miles. for peace of mind you could always run it to 5,000 sample it and send in a UOA and see if you can go longer.
Manual says 7,500 on my '05, dealer said 5,000 based on Dallas air/road quality. I do it every 5k just to be safe. Plus it gives a nice interval for rotating the tires.
I have always thought that driving conditions should determine oil change intervals. As for me, if I am towing a lot, (or off road start and stopping), I change at 5K otherwise I change oil at 7K

There is nothing wrong with what your doing above.
The reason many of us just change at 5,000 miles is due to the following:
1) The 6.0L motor shears oil down to that of a 30 weight (verified through oil analysis).
2) The fact that some poeple's injectors leak diesel into the crankcase, so they change more frequently.
3) The fact that diesel's with EGR valves run dirtier, that cleaner oil is a benefit.
4) 5,000 intervals is a n easy number to track, remember and is consistent with 15,000 miles for the fuel filter, 30,000 for the tranny services and whatever mileage one uses for tire rotations.
Good luck, but these are the reasons people use 5,000 mile intervals... inclusing myself.
