My '71 f100 had dual 15 gallon saddle tanks. The factory tank was mounted behind the seat inside the cab. It held 17 gallons. The saddle tanks were aftermarket and sometimes a dealer option so it is hard to say if you have the same tanks as mine.
In '68 the in-cab tanks were 19.5 gallons and the optional frame-mounted tanks were 25.0 gallons. I don't know if or why they would have changed in '70, so I think the answer to your question is 25 gallons.
HiMe, Wasn't the tank in the cab the standard tank, and the optional frame mounted tank was an 19 gal tank in the rear of the bed?
The Fuel selector in the cab is labled "Main" for the tank in the Cab, and "Aux" for the tank up over the spare tire.
The Company didn't offer "saddle tank's" or "Midship" tanks at all until the 73's came out with the Wider Frame.(that I know of anyway)
Hoppy
Hey Thud, as far as I know, '67 to '72 had the 25 gallon optional/aux tank mounted inside the left frame rail just behind the cab with a stone shield surrounding it. I'm presuming that the poster's question about a "saddle" tank is the aforementioned optional/aux tank.
As I recall, the rear mounted tanks didn't make their way into the trucks until '73. I don't know all the mid/late '70's tank options, but I do know that they offered something behind the cab on the left side...don't know if it is inside or outside frame rails. Maybe some of the mid/late '70 truck guys can give us insight.
