A few weeks ago I posted a question about the 5litre in my 93 idling a twice the rpm it should be. After checking all the sensors abd replacing one. I found that I could not get the engine codes because I have an electrical problem that affects the radio and ignition. A local shop told me that the lower intake manifold gasket and/or the injector o-rings were probably the cause,(wanted to charge me around six, seven hundred dollars to replace. Even tried spraying carb cleaner in around the injecters and along the manifold base, did get a small increase in the idle. So thinking I found the leak I replaced the manifold gasket and the injector o-rings, being extremely carefull. When I reassembled the engine and started it up there was no change in the idle in fact it was running a bit higher, 2500 rpm instead of 2200 rpm. Left the truck sit for a couple days in disgust then had to take it too work, started it 5 am and it idled at jusy under 1100 rpm and everything ran fine. I'm thinkin'. great, finally it is fixed, then after work darn thing is idling at 2500 rpm again and will not change...next thing gonna try is dynamite.. any suggestions?
I have a 1993 f150 with the 5.0 litre and my truck does the same thing. Some mornings I will start it and it will idle perfect. Then the next morning it will be running at 2000 rpms even after it warms up. So your not alone with that problem. Im just curouis if anybody has had this problem and been able to fix it.
if you have already checked all of your ignition and emissions componets then it could be the ECU (computer) also the EGR valve will make your idle irregular
