Cool 2003 Explorer Side Mirror Replacement

This morning, while leaving for work, I noticed that apparently someone did not like the side mirror on my car and last night decided to strike it with some type of blunt object, cracking the glass. The mirror still functions but the glass is shattered and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some knowledge on side mirrors.

1) Is it possible to replace just the glass or does the entire mirror have to be replaced, it functions properly (movement, puddle light, etc...).

2) If the mirror has to be replaced is anyone familiar with that process or could you point me to some information on the web which would outline the process.

I had to replace a mirror on my 96' Explorer as well but that's been a few years ago and I want to find something specific to the 2002-2005 Explorers. I found a replacement mirror online for $67, which I think is a good price.

Thanks in advance.

I had a rental Ford Taurus once and I hit the drivers mirror on a garage that shattered that glass, and the Ford dealer was able to pop the glass out and replace just the glass itself again. It was also a heated power mirror, so I would think Ford still would be able to give you a replacement mirror itself if thats all you need, and I don't think it's expensive at all.

Yeah you can just replace the mirror glass by its self which is alot easier on the pocket book.

Ive seen them at the auto parts stores before or give a shout to the dealership they should be able to get one.

Also if you have a real hard time finding one you might even be able to find a glass shop to cut one out for you.

Just replaced mine. Got it at Auto Zone...they ordered it for me. Cost about $20.00. Looks like new again.

As long as the bracket that holds the glass into the mirror housing is intact, then you should be able to get the glass. If the bracket is destroyed, then you will have to replace the whole housing. Mine (off an '03) were stolen, both the glass and the bracket. I had to replace both mirrors housing, motor, and all. I found good aftermarket ones on e-bay for only $50, and I upgraded to heated mirrors.

There are good installation instructions on kwmuth.com, you can read the installation instructions for their kit, and use the info you need.

Good luck.

The wife hit the side view mirrow on the garage while backing out. Just cracked the glass in the mirror. I'd like to just replace the glass and not the entire mirror housing, puddle lamp, etc.

Is Katdaddy saying I can just order this part at AutoZone?
