i found some tsb codes that seem to cover what is going on with my explorer. temp gauge going up and down. is there any way to find out what they do to fix these problems?
What codes did you get? I'm sure someone on this forum can help. Normally, temp gauge going up and down is a sticking Tstat, but it would help to know what codes you got.
i found these codes under the tsb search area. what part of the codes do you need? also, i thought about the bubble idea, do i just drain the system to get rid of the problem? its a 94 explorer.
A TSB is a techinical service bulletin, not a code. Those numbers posted do not even look like valid TSB numbers to me.
Codes are typically referred to as PCM, or the EFI computer, troubleshooting codes. For a 1994 Explorer, EEC-IV PCM, you have 3 digit codes. They are accessible via a seperate scanner or a paper clip if you're Mrshorty. www.fordfuelinjection.com
Forget about codes for a minute. If your temp is going up and down you probably have a bad thermostat. Why bars leak? was the radiator leaking? If so replace it. Bars leak is OK if you are stuck on the side of the road and need to get home. But it's not a long term fix. Why would you want to stop up your coolin system? It won't cool better if antifreeze doesn't flow.
as for the bars leak, had a leak somewhere, not the rad though. the bars leak stopped the leak, and thats when the temp gauge started going up and down. i have replaced the thermastat, and it still does this. would letting one of those oil change places use that vacuum coolant changer be a good idea? its too cold to flush the system for me to do. thanks for the help!
Not sure what a vacum coolant changer is. Fresh coolant probably won't solve a temp fluctuation issue...maybe getting the bars leak out would though. If you look back at what changed, added bars leak now a fluctuation problem, I guess I'd point towards the bars leak.
